Water pumps and power heads can be used in aquariums, garden ponds, terrariums, hydroponics systems and irrigation applications. Water pumps can be used for water circulation, water changes and to supply water to fountains and ornamental streams. Water pumps should never be operated dry, there should always be water running through the pump when it is turned on. Water pump’s flow power depends on the height the water has to be lifted to. The nominal flow power is measured from the pump level, higher lift reduces the actual output.

When the objective is just general water circulation in an aquarium, pond or other water container, stream pumps are often more appropriate than normal water pumps.
