Ceramic heater bulb with E27 base is suitable for heating terrariums, greenhouses etc. when the infrared radiation does not need to be accompanied by visible light. Ceramic heaters are very suitable for general heating and can be used to provide a warm area to nocturnal reptiles.

Ceramic heater bulbs are equipped with standard E27 base, so they can be used to replace an ordinary light bulb in any E27 lamp system. However, as ceramic heaters create high surface temperatures and are often relatively powerful, care must be taken not to use them in lamps not designed to withstand high temperatures. As a general rule, ceramic heater should be used only in a ceramic E27 socket and with metal reflectors.

Ceramic heater bulb is made of much thicker ceramic material than the very thin glass used in ordinary incandescent heat bulbs and the construction reserves much more heat energy. Therefore, a ceramic heater can cause serious burn damages if the hot bulb is touched. Ceramic heater should never be used without a protective screen if the animals or people are capable of touching it accidentally.

E27 base ceramic heaters are designed for heating terrariums, greenhouses and other closed spaces where a moderately powerful and simple heating system is needed. Ceramic heater produces heat (infrared radiation) without any visible light. Ceramic heater concentrates infrared radiation to a limited area better than most other heating applications, so it can be used to heat certain spot in a larger space, for example to prevent drinking water from freezing in a otherwise unheated chicken coop.

Ceramic heater bulb does not radiate heat as effectively to longer distance as an appropriately shaped incandescent light bulb equipped with an internal reflector. As ceramic heaters do not produce visible light associated with natural sunshine either, they are usually not as recommendable for creating a basking spot for diurnal and actively basking reptile species as an ordinary heat lamp. Ceramic heaters are most suitable for general terrarium or greenhouse heating or for creating warm areas for nocturnal animals.
